SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans in conjunction with classroom staff during class time and as needed.
• Model calmness and assurance to set a tone of stability and control in daily activities and crises for both individuals served and staff.
• Assist in training staff in personal safety as well as in verbal and physical intervention techniques.
• Ensure completion of all documentation of crises following regulations and agency procedures within appropriate time frames.
• Demonstrate the ability to model appropriate proactive and reactive strategies to defuse crises.
• Participate in team meetings to obtain information, provide feedback/input, and assist in the development of Behavior Intervention and treatment plans.
• Provide direct assistance to classrooms when needed.
• Assist with ensuring that transition times are handled smoothly.
• Adhere and ensure that the daily schedule and routines are followed.
• Provide support to staff on an ongoing basis, including potential and actual crises.
• If a crisis should occur before the end of your shift, you must ensure all necessary paperwork, aligned with the agency incident policy and procedures have been documented and met.
• Model appropriate interactions with individuals, staff, family members, community members, etc. at all times
• During mealtimes, you must ensure that there is a positive tone in the cafeteria, all Students are being supervised, eating their meals, and that diet plans are being followed.
• Coordinate and communicate with Clinical and Nursing Departments regarding students’ psychological, medical, and physical well-being.
• Ongoing training and workshops as needed.
• Provide Direct Care support as needed to meet the immediate needs of the students/people supported.
• All other duties requested by the Principal/ Assistant Principal or administration.


QUALIFICATIONS –
• High School Diploma required; Associate/bachelor’s preferred.
• Preference is given to someone with a Teacher Assistant certificate and/or a background in Behavior Science.
• Good management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Computer literate

In addition, must possess the following characteristics:

• Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and individuals within the organization.

• Be able to set limits and maintain the helping role and intervene appropriately.

WORKING CONDITIONS – 35 hour/week
