Responsibilities 

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Kitchen Supervisor prepares monthly food menu and cooks food in compliance regulatory agency requirements and guidelines. He/she supervises cooks and provides oversight for all kitchen operations including serving meals to clients. 


  • Supervises cooks and provides oversight for all kitchen operations.  
  • Ensures compliance with all Urban Pathways, funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines. 
  • Ensures that menu planning is completed on a four-week cycle.  
  • Assists cooks in all aspects of meal preparation and service.
  • Serves meals to clients.   
  • Ensures that all kitchen equipment and appliances are in good working order and provides recommendations for repair, upgrade or replacement when needed. 
  • Oversees and maintains kitchen area and equipment in clean and sanitary manner. 
  • Washes dishes, utensils, dinner trays, pots, and pans according to sanitary procedures.  
  • Receives, checks, and stores all food and kitchen supplies delivered to the facility. 
  • Maintains good personal health and hygiene.  
  • Assesses, coordinates and facilitates employee development and training.  
  • Prepares and submits food orders, purchase orders and check requests in a timely manner. 
  • Maintains inventory of all food, kitchen supplies and equipment. 
  • Coordinates kitchen staffing schedules. 
  • Maintains and submits all necessary documentation and reports as required by Urban Pathways, regulatory and funding agency policies, procedures, and regulations. 
  • Oversees daily meal count. 
  • Provides food reports as required.  
  • Ensures that all kitchen equipment and appliances are in good working order and provides recommendations for repair, upgrade or replacement when needed. 

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required. 
  • Minimum of three to five years experience planning, ordering, cooking and serving meals for groups of 50 or more required.
  • NYS Food Handlers Certificate or equivalent. 
  • Completion of recent PPD Test prior to employment and annually thereafter required.  
  • CPR, First Aid required within 3 months of hire. 
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) preferred.  
  • Knowledge of food and nutrition. 
  • Experience with homeless, persons living with a mental health condition and substance abuse population preferred. 
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.
